This week I participated in the Data for Advocacy Training organized by Theirworld as a Global Youth Ambassador and it was an incredible learning experience! Reflecting back on all I have learned and its alignment with my studies and research, I must say it was the perfect timing and best thing I have done in a while.
Here are my major takeaways:
– We can’t afford to sit at the fence and prioritize advocating for education especially early years! A shocking statistic is that by the age of 5, 90% of the child’s brain is fully developed, while this is a fact, sadly over 349 million children lack access to education and about half of that number of pre-primary age are not receiving any form of education.
-Similarly, we need more evidence based solutions, for me I argue this based on creating solutions based on feelings (I feel, I think, I sense) no, we need to prioritize data and evidence-based solutions, checking how effective is your solution, how would this impact the family, health, environment and education and its long lasting impact on a child early development stage. It is beyond execution but taking a step back to also check if it’s working and how best it could be improved.
– Effective Collaboration should be prioritized, we are in the decade of evolution where young people have experienced it all from COVID, to this great shift with Artificial Intelligence, and one way forward is to be confident and collaborate with others in solving this challenge.
– Furthermore, Technology skills are not for one sector only, we need more Data Analysts, Artificial Intelligence Experts, Policymakers who would ensure we are moving towards building a sustainable future for early years.
– Finally, I enjoyed learning how to craft and practice my elevator pitch and getting feedback from my peers and I learned from other Global Youth Ambassadors sharing their stories.
– I am glad to have connected with Tara Akindele and @Anilu Verde
Thank you Theirworld for this incredible opportunity.
